In 1917, Halifax's North End was reduced to ashes after an explosion in the harbor decimated the area. The City Planners rebuilt this section of the North End using
"Hydro-Stone" concrete blocks, with aesthetic town planning, renaming the area
"The Hydrostone District".
The small downtown area offers a variety of eateries and stores.
